In March of this year, I went to Barcelona for a work trip. I had been twice before on a youth camp, once as participant and one as leader. It was nice to revisit the city with more freedom (and more money). We stayed in Eixample, just of Rambla de Catalunya. This meant that we were close to many amazing places to eat.
The highlights of the trip were a visit to the Sagrada Família and an early morning 6k run I did all the way to the Santa Maria del Mar. This latter church is the main object of Falcones’ historical novel Cathedral of the Sea, which I read a few years ago. Seeing the historical site of a novel in person always adds another dimension to it. With two of my colleagues I visited Camp Nou, FC Barcelona’s home ground. I had seen it before; worth to see once but unless there’s a game — which there wasn’t — not necessary to see again. That said, we had a few good laughs, especially seeing that the much hated comic sans is used as the font on the La Liga cups.
I thoroughly enjoyed the food at RAÓ. I’m normally not a huge scallops fan, but these were the most buttery, tasty ones I’ve ever had. Other than that, La Flauta also really was worth the visit. One of my colleagues enjoys craft beer, so together we made the trek to both Brewdog and Garage Beer Co, worth the walks.
Here are some pics of my trip.
