I still encounter white people who don’t think white privilege is a reality. I’m on a mission to counter that, and examples are often the most tangible way to do so.
Today, I sold our old TV via a closed Facebook neighbourhood group. When the buyer came to fetch it, he asked me if I could write a quick note to confirm that he had bought it from me, “so the police would not think he had stolen it”.
I have sold many things to white people on Facebook. I have bought many things on Facebook. This is not a consideration we need to have.
Because of white privilege.
While you’re here, the worst possible reply you can have to mentions of white privilege is “I’ve worked hard”. More on that in this post.
