So far, the only band I’ve shot twice is Enter Shikari and on each occasion it’s been an absolute pleasure, but also a big challenge. The band simply doesn’t stand still.
Celebrating Christmas and New Year with friends and family in Belgium.
My little sister Nienke and her husband Silas had their civil wedding on the evening before their big party and church wedding. I took some pictures and we did a little photo shoot as well.
I’ve never been a huge ska fan, but seeing these icons of ska and punk rock music perform is always special.
Before Kim and I started dating I had promised to show her a cool castle somewhere in the Ardennes. So the first weekend we were a couple we went to Bouillon with its stunning castle. And we also took the time to visit the abbey of Orval. Why not show here some more Belgian pride, […]
South Africa isn’t frequented by a lot of metalcore bands and I really wanted to see Oh, Sleeper before moving to that part of the world. Not only did they come to Belgium in the last months before my move, I got to shoot and interview them.
In 2012 I came to South Africa for the first time. Kim and I did a road trip along these places: Cape Town, Stellenbosch, Hermanus, Plettenberg Bay, Coffee Bay, Sani Pass (Lesotho), Swaziland, Marloth Park, Inhambane (Mozambique), Kruger National Park, Waterval Boven, Johannesburg. It was a great intro to what is now my home country.
Here are some more shots from all over Belgium from a weekend at my parents’ home in Ypres during the Cat Parade, and a weekend away to Dinant.
Outside of places in Belgium and South Africa, Amsterdam is the city Kim and I have been to the most often. We both love the cosy city centre, the great museums and the interesting crowd.
The first festival I shot, was the annual Christmas Rock Night in Enneptal, Germany. First time for me seeing most of these bands and great fun to take pics of Wolves At The Gates, I Am Empire, John Coffey, Icon For Hire, and Hawk Nelson.
When my friends Sarah & Thijs asked if I could bring my camera and take some shots at their wedding, I happily accepted. It was a great night and a great vibe.
Enter Shikari is the first big concert that I shot. And what a challenge: dynamic, fast, vibrant. So difficult to get a good shot out of that. I wasn’t that blown away by Your Demise, but got some good pics out of them.
Some shots from a weekend away with my awesome family.
I started listening to punk rock music in 1997 through MxPx. Needless to say that when I was able to shoot Mike Herrera in August 2010 in Belgium, I was super excited.
I’ve been a youth leader for several years. Here are some pics of the 2011 July camp.
For the course in Advanced Homiletics we had to follow a specific format to prepare a sermon. Since I had done an exegesis of Ecclesiastes 1:12-2:26 a few years before, I had fallen in love with this passage. Ecclesiastes encourages the reader to not think too special of himself, but at the same time to […]
In 2011 I was lucky enough to be able to go to Singapore for my work. Here are some of my impressions from the remarkable East-Meets-West mix that is this tiny country.
Raymond Hausoul and I edited a book, Je bent jong en je wilt God (“You’re Young and You’re Desiring God”) in which several authors tried to address hot contemporary topics for youth and youth leaders. It was published in 2010 by Medema. Writing Next to editing, I also wrote two chapters: A chapter on multiculturalism […]
I bought my camera in August 2010 and in September we went to Italy with a group of friends, it becoming my first extended playing around with my new toys.
One of the most challenging human experiences is suffering. Every human faces it (although not to the same degree), and most of us struggle to channel it. In his first letter, Peter encourages his readers to take an example in Christ and endure in doing good despite of this suffering, in the realisation that it […]
