Winter in the mountains

My brother Sem attended a conference near Johannesburg (with “near” being fairly euphemistic there). After his conference, he came down to Cape Town for some relaxed time together.

Cape Town

We hiked up Table Mountain via Kasteelspoort and Maclear’s Beacon to the cable car. From there we hiked down through Platteklip Gorge. It was the first time doing this long route, but so far it’s been my favourite one up the mountain.

I was also able to show him some of my other favourite spots in Cape Town. We went to visit Espressolab, Miteri (where I work), The Bungalow, and The Art of Duplicity. The latter is a speakeasy so the location is not public knowledge. My brother is the drummer in a jazz band and the speakeasy had some jazz on.

And beyond

After a few days in Cape Town, we travelled to Citrusdal and stayed a few days at Wolfkop Nature Reserve. Then we went to Langebaan for an evening. We had one more evening at home and then Sem went back to Belgium.

After he had left, Kim and I went to De Doorns for a weekend in the mountains. On the way there, we did a few stops of the Robertson Wine Route. The views in De Doorns were amazing, but it was freezing cold with no heating available so we spent quite a bit of the time in bed, but hey, that’s what holidays are for, right?
